Whether you’re looking for a peaceful place to escape to with your partner, or just trying to beat the January Blues, we’ve compiled the perfect list of staycations for your next long weekend.
Here at Meander we love something a bit adventurous and quirky, so we’ve compiled a list of rentals ranging from a treehouse to an airship, from a luxurious boathouse on the West Coast of Scotland to a rustic tipi on the Welsh border. Whatever it is you and your partner might be looking for, the list below has got you covered.
Possibly the most unique of our finds, the AirShip 2 is the perfect place to escape to with your other half if a secluded, quirky retreat is what you’re after. Located in Drimnin in the Scottish Highlands, this insulated aluminium pod designed by Roderick James Architects offers uninterrupted, breathtaking views of the Sound of Mull through its panoramic windows.
While cosy, the AirShip 2 isn’t short of great amenities, boasting a living room (with a log fire burner, might we add), a kitchenette and dining area, a queen bed bedroom nook, and a slick, stainless steel bathroom.
If you fancy exploring during your stay, nearby Oban has plenty of historical landmarks - including St Conan’s Kirk, where Robert the Bruces remains are buried - as well as numerous ferries out to the islands of Collonsay, Mallaig and Tiree.
If this futuristic escape is up your alley, then find out more about the AirShip 2 here.

The treehouse is situated right next to a beautiful lochan and enjoys two acres of grounds and gardens in which birds, sheep, ponies and donkeys roam. If you like to be surrounded by nature and wildlife, this is definitely the place for you.

For something a little more upmarket, you can’t beat the Boathouse at the Torridon Hotel. Situated on the banks of Loch Torridon, this is your very own private waterside retreat. Housing two bedrooms, a bathroom, a fully fitted kitchen and gorgeous lounge in which you can cosy up in front of the log fire, this charming old boathouse has a contemporary feel to it.
You can choose to enjoy the peace and quiet of the boathouse, or take advantage of the various activities and amenities offered by the hotel. Enjoy a whisky and some traditional Scottish food in the bar and restaurant, and for the more adventurous, there are options to hike, mountain bike and kayak. The Hotel is situated on the West Coast of the Scottish Highlands and is overlooked by Beinn Alligin - The Mountain of Beauty. If you are interested in seeing a broad range of Scottish sealife then seals, otters and even whales can be seen via the local Hebridean Whale Cruises!
It is not for nothing that the Torridon Hotel was featured on BBC Two’s Amazing Hotels: Life Behind The Lobby.

The Beekeeper’s Bothy is set in a picturesque wildflower meadow in Newburgh, Aberdeenshire. This mini home is small but mighty, thanks to its expansive windows that allow you to wake up to the outstanding view of the Aberdeenshire coast from the super king-size mezzanine bed.
This bespoke, larch-clad bothy will provide you with an uber cosy, tranquil environment where you can relax and take in what the Aberdeenshire coast has to offer, including seal spotting at Seal Beach, where you might even be able to get up close and personal with the adorable animals.
Situated on the East Coast of Aberdeenshire, the bothy is superbly positioned to make the most of both the beaches and the nearby Eastern Cairngorm mountains.
The bothy sleeps four, but we think it makes for the perfect romantic getaway for two. If you think so too, then go ahead and book here.
