With the festive season just weeks away, these Christmas rentals in the UK and Europe are perfect for ending the year on a high and will ensure an unforgettable celebration. Nostalgic decorations, festive flavours and twinkling lights – a staycation during the Christmas holiday season feels completely magical and is something many of us will have been dreaming of after lockdown.

There is nothing like spending time with friends and family and whether you prefer snuggling up near a wood burner or taking part in winter activities like skiing, we’ve got you covered. From something a bit closer to home (for a lot of us) in the Scottish Highlands to an out-of-this-world mountain hideaway in Austria, let us tempt you with some amazing accommodation experiences for a memorable festive escape.

Ufogel Cabin - Debant, Austria

This asymmetric Alpine cabin has been named ‘Ufogel’, as its owners believe it looks like a combination of a UFO and a Vogel, which is German for ‘bird’. Ufogel combines an ethereal UFO-like Larchwood-crafted exterior with a bird’s effortless poise, seemingly hovering over the unspoiled Nussdorf countryside. It truly is a one-of-a-kind mountain hideaway and is undeniably good for the soul.

This holiday home sleeps up to four people, even though it only contains 45-square-meters of floor space. Step inside, and you will still feel like you’re outside, thanks to the breath-taking panoramic windows with a view of the impressive Lienz Dolomites, the Val Pusteria Mountain peaks. The stripped-back interiors are expertly designed – the spacious pine double bed can be pulled down when needed, and the separate bunk next door provides two more spaces. The barrier-free bathroom overlooking the East Tyrolean Mountains ensures a new dimension to your morning shower. There’s ample luggage storage, so you won’t need to clutter the stunning multi-functional space.

You won’t need to worry about long road trips as just a five-minute walk away is a sauna, tennis court, local shops and restaurants. Admire the museums and medieval centre. Once you return to your haven, simply fire up the wood-burner and be at peace with the world.

What’s more, is that if you fancy venturing beyond the Austrian border, Italy is within an hour’s drive and Slovenia is less than two hours away.

Am Bathach - Sutherland, Scottish Highlands

Have you come across Hebridean Sheep before?! This stunning cottage is part of a traditional working croft, where you can watch these fascinating creatures grazing on the surrounding landscape. Am Bathach is constructed using traditional stonework and cedar logs from Pioneer Log Homes of Canada, and is part of a refurbishment carried out on the original cow barn. The cottage is kitted out using traditional furnishings and local tweeds, complemented by modern appliances including a large electric power shower, gas oven, dishwasher, microwave and fridge/freezer. This holiday cottage sleeps two guests.

The Sutherland area is world renowned for its magnificent wildlife, scenery, friendly local communities and food and drink scene. What’s even better (and not so well known) is this area boasts a mild climate and low rainfall due to the Atlantic Gulf Stream, making it an ideal location for the dream romantic Christmas getaway.

Whether you want to visit a whisky distillery, go to the spa centre, play 9 holes of golf on the world famous Royal Darnoch golf course, or simply lounge around on the cottage’s decking area admiring the brightest of starts in the dark winter sky, the recreational opportunities are endless!

Eagles View Suite - Hotel Iso-Syöte, Finland

Luxurious, spacious and utterly unique: these words best describe the Eagles View Suite. Situated high up on the Iso Syöte hilltops in Finland, this extraordinary treehouse offers two floors of warmth and comfort built around a tree growing through the centre of the accommodation up to the second floor. The top branches hold the ‘nest’ bedroom and private hot tub, where you can enjoy 360-degree views of the surrounding landscape. If you’re lucky, you may even see the Northern Lights, also known as Aurora Borealis. On the ground floor, snuggle up by the cosy fireplace in the living room. As if that isn’t enough, the luxurious bathroom even has its own private sauna to warm you up after winter activities!

Speaking of which, this hotel has so much more to offer, including top-quality cuisine and an unparalleled choice of winter pursuits. With abundant snowfall, some of Finland’s best ski slopes are nearby, as are snowmobiling facilities, snowshoe hiking and reindeer and husky safaris. This truly is an exceptional way to spend your Christmas holidays.

It is perfect for couples who enjoy beautifully designed, spacious accommodation with awe-inspiring views. This fully-equipped house comprises an open plan kitchen/dining/living area linked to an en-suite bedroom. The en-suite features a rain shower and Japanese style soaking tub, big enough for two!

The ultra-modern vaulted ceiling gives that extra feeling of space and makes the most of the coastal location, providing uninterrupted panoramic views over the Sound towards Pabbay, Killegray and Ensay. If you fancy getting all cosy, then snuggle up in the reading room warmed by a log burning stove - perfect for the cooler winter evenings.

If you are a wildlife lover, then this place is for you. During low tide expect to see the local otters in the kelp, plus grey seals, dolphins, porpoises, gannets, and on occasion, the resident breeding pair of golden eagles. It doesn’t get much better than that!

Within just two miles are eating out facilities and supermarkets. On top of that, the Harris golf course is only a 15-minute drive away and is available to guests staying at The Big House.
